Check Engine Fault Code 612 and then A/C compressor cycling

....Nope.

The AC proceedure is common and is exactly how Volvo and other manufacturers want it done now. If it's a slow leak, the charge might last you a year or 2 before the freon leaks out enough to cause poor cooling. When that happens, they'll see the dye. It's most likely a leaking Evap, very costly repair.
