"Is it possible that the fuel vapor repair was close to any of the freon lines?"

....Nope.

The AC proceedure is common and is exactly how Volvo and other manufacturers want it done now. If it's a slow leak, the charge might last you a year or 2 before the freon leaks out enough to cause poor cooling. When that happens, they'll see the dye. It's most likely a leaking Evap, very costly repair.
