S70 Badging Removal S70 1999

I'm not here to place blame on anyone but myself, but I am here to issue a warning and a touch of exclamation to my fellow Volvo drivers. Unfortunately, my attempts to remove the badging on my S70 did NOT go well. Hair dryers, fishing line, super-glue remover, and everything but a G** d*** ice pick went into getting it off. I decided arbitrarily to remove the "L" first, and after only 30 seconds with the hair dryer on full power, it easily slid off. However, it left a hairy black mess of adhesive surrounded by a dried-solid layer of some kind of clear glue-like adhesive. No alcohol, further heating, or glue-remover would bring this nasty crap off. I tried for hours, and had been told by friends that the whole job should take minutes. At the time, I had agreed entirely; no way could there be anything to this. Perhaps I just chose the wrong letter to start with, or perhaps the previous owner of my vehicle had had the lettering (or part of it) fall off and decided to ambush me with a layer of extra glue. However, the original black double-sided adhesive wasn't eager to be removed either. Whatever the case, I ended up skulking to the local hardware store and buying a tube of superglue to reattach the b****** letter. Maybe I just bought a car that refuses to return my affection, or maybe this has been d*** near impossible for others. The "L" is on straight once again (you can bet your ascot on that one), but it looks like bird s*** is holding it on because of all the nasty white crap left behind by the rubbing and superglue remover that went into its removal. If you're as cautious as I USUALLY am about doing anything like this to your car and wish to remove your 1999 S70's badging, I "uggest you skip it and put your money and patience elsewhere (such as into your sound system). Once again, I assure you I'm not here to blame anyone, because I appreciate your advice, there was no way to predict this, and in the end, it's my car and I made the decision. There's my story, and I'm bloody well sticking to it. Thank you, my fellow Volvo drivers; I appreciate your dedication and assistance. I just suggest no one try this.

Michael L.
