The ABS/TRACS warning light on my car has come on 3 times in the last month. It occured twice while we were driving on the highway after about 2 hours and then an hour later after restarting the engine. On the return trip the light came on once. My car has 102,000 miles. My independent Volvo mechanic checked the codes and it stated a pump fault. He said the ABS computer needs to be replaced. The dealer service writer also said the ABS computer would need replacing. Evidently '97 Volvos are having this problem occur with some frequency. The computer is about $400.00 and requires about an hour to replace. The dealer said they had tried used ABS computers from wrecks but they had not had good results. They did not mention anything about relays. As long as the light stays off the ABS works as designed. For $500.00+ it may not worth "fixing" if the resetting the warning can be accomplished by restarting the engine.
