Yes use the A1 position for test mode 4. Turn the ignition to the ON position to run this test. The difference between 2x and 10x is just the speed the test runs through each component. The 2x speed would be for you using the underhood A1 box and the 10x would be for a dealer's shop using a ScanTool box and digital analyser. I'm not sure of the exact part number for the solenoids. They look alike and maybe the part numbers are even the same, I'm not sure. You should be able to get that info from a Volvo dealer in your area. I don't know if FCPGroton.com would carry solenoids or not, but they carry everything else. The TCM (yes Trans Control Module) is located next to the ECU in that black box on the passengerside strut tower. The measuring unit is a Volvo Scantool that costs about $3k. I guess I should have omitted that part, but I just threw it in there in case you were going to a Volvo shop and wanted to talk knowledgable to them. For you the shade tree mechanic just use the A1 position test procedure and see what (if any ) response you get. Good luck ....... Mike
