Ian,

It sure doesn't help to change it frequently. Although my Volvo and my Nissan service dept recommends doing it every 48k, I changed mine every 24k or/ on every 3rd oil change ( whichever one come first ) with Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF due to how I drive my S70 / Pathfinder on daily basis and the fact that I live on top of a steep hill.
