if it is no longer pink, but rather brown, and has a burnt smell to it, it absolutely should be changed. I would think Volvo means if it has not changed its properties it shouldn't be changed...if the color changes it is no longer effective. Mine turns brown in 30K miles...I put Mobil 1 ATF...we'll see how that does now.
