David,
4 years is about right. My recomendation is to get a good one, and to get it soon. Get it soon on your time table, not the battery's.
My luck is that things go wrong at the worst possible times. But if you have better luck that me, you will be able to wait for it to fail and then replace. If you wait you will be assured of knowing that you got the absolute most for your money.
Get a good one. I have had good results with the Interstate brand. I have had experince with several different brands and that one works well. My car guy friends seem to agreee. But there are several good brands and Diehard is among them, dont overlook a Volvo one from the dealer pricey, but quite nice.
Good luck,
Kele'
