Thanks for this Doug.

I do not have a fault code reader but I presume this problem will have set a fault code in the engine management system. Do you know if this fault code will clear automatically when I change the valve or do I need to do it manually - I guess I will need to get volvo to do it or find someone else with the fault code reader tool.

I suspect it needs to be reset manually and that is why the new fan is not working - I have replaced the fan already but not the valve on the exhaust manifold.
