Strange blinking . . . 850 1993

This morning, as I sat in my car getting my bearings before stepping out into the pouring rain, I noticed that the "rec" light and the air conditioning light were blinking simultaneously. The car was not on but the ignition was at the position before turning completely on. I have never seen these two lights blink before. I turned the motor on and they stopped blinking. I keep the air conditioning light on at all times because that actually means it's OFF, but. . . Any ideas?
