Guys,
I don't think thermostats are that accurate.
There is a thread, on a Honda forum recently, where a guy bought a dozen thermostats from various manufacturers and tested them all with a thermometer and a pot of water.
I forgot the details, but, if I remember correctly, there was, up to, a 30-degree difference between what was advertised as the temperature of the thermostat, and it's actual operating temperature.
The moist accurate thermostat was the Honda part (it only varied by two, or three degrees), with most of the aftermarket units faulty by more than 10 degrees.
So, when we are talking about a five, or six, degree variance between thermostats, we are not talking about significant numbers here.
And, there has to be great variability in the response of the gauges--we are not talking about the space shuttle here. So if a gauge reads 3 o'clock, or 2:50, it's not a significant difference.
