Well,

Can't comment on BMW 5-series - no one will do it _seriously_ (i.e. past redline) on the street. On highway it's marginal - if you need to beat the 5xx guy to change lane for example, then the one to push a pedal first wins.

As per mileage - I can't believe the good numbers I hear from people. Mine T5'01 never did better than 25mpg on 100% hwy and 22mpg on 50/50. As per 100% street in urban area - it's from 19.5 in summer to 17.5 in winter (current tank). May be it's because it's mostly 2adults+2kids inthere... dunno.
