Background:
I have a '95 850 T5-R. I had my front rotors/break pads replaced and my breaks squealed when I applied them. They said this can be normal give it a week. Week later still squealing. Took car back (prolly after about 1 month) and they said I had the car power washed at a drive-thru car wash and it washed off the anit squeal grease. They apply it and charge me and it still squeaks. Take it back in and they tell me my REAR calipers are frozen/locked. They told me when I bring in the car to have the calipers done they will credit me the charge for the re-greasing of the brakes they did presviously (about $65). The said the REAR caliper replacing will cost approx $520.
Question:
Could it be the calipers? The squeaking occurs under under mild breaking. I.E. under very very light breaking, no squeal, or under hard breaking no squeal, but under moderate breaking (where I find myself breaking most of the time) bad squeal. The last time I had the car in, the pried the calipers or something and the squealing was gone for 1-2 days and then returned.
This is an independent mechanic who I have brought 2 different cars to for over 7 years. I initially had great faith in this Indy shop. However, this incident and another have made me wonder if something has changed in their philosophy. Probably the fact i just had my alternator replaced ($500) and my PNP switch ($320) isn't helping my mood. Oh and the flat tire yesterday, oh and the 4wheel alignment I need because of negative camber wear that caused my rears to need premature replacing.......ack.../vent off
Do the costs for the rear calipers replacement ($520) sound right? And could the calipers be responsible considering the symptoms?
