The turbos in Volvos are basically reliable. Absolutely use synthetic oil, your engine will thank you.

One thing you will notice with a turbo is the boost provided absolutely relates to ambient temperature. The hotter it is, the less boost you'll have. With cold, dense air (more oxygen molecules per unit volume), you get more boost/power.
