Hi Matt,
I agree with V70 guy, see if this Volvo dealer has more success with fixing the problems. If you have enough warranty left, keep the car a while longer and see if the problems return. If they do, sell before the warranty is up and look for a mint '91+ 740/940 or a '96+ 960/S/V90. From my observations (worked for my independent Volvo mechanic last summer) the '98 S/V70s seem to be more trouble than other years. It almost seems that '95-'97 850s are more reliable. BUT, I guess it kinda depends on the car because a friend of mine has a '98 V70 that his dad bought new in spring '97 and it's now around 250K km (~155K mi) and has been pretty good to them so far. They key has seems to be following the maintainance schedule to a "T" with additional maintanance like tranny flushes and more frequent oil changes (every ~3-4K mi). They like it enough that they have just ordered a new V70 AWD to replace the '98 as his dad's car. Anyway, I say stick it out for a while yet and if things don't get better then put yourself in a nice RWD Volvo or a new one if you like :) Good luck!
