Is my S70 a lemon? S70

Hi,

I work on many 98 S70's, and actually prefer these to the 99's...by a LONG shot. 99 is the first year of the electronic throttle control. You didn't say how many miles...so that you know, on your list...

Two new rear shocks (normal maintenance type stuff...usually around 70-100K), new rack & pinion (not normal at all...usually it is the power steering pump that leaks), loud steering knock (the upper strut spring caps break, if the struts are warranteed, go ahead and get them done at the same time. Also, the control arm bolts wiggle loose, have your frame and suspension bolts tightened), drivers seat belt replaced (have never had to do this, which part did they replace? the catch? if it is still doing it, I guess it would be the retractor portion...pulling against the catch...the warranty on safety items is longer), purge valve (gross evap leak, usual), noisy driver door hinge (usual stuff), loose rear view mirror (have had to buy three for customers thus far), windshield cracked at dealer (wrong of them to not admit responsibility).

As far as the other stuff goes...ECC...Electronic Climate Control...is most likely going to be your evaporator...they all do. Slow acceleration...is your check engine light on? Do you have records of a tune-up. Noisy exhaust...well...they kinda all have that.

I hope everything goes well for you...a 98 S70 really is a good car...I think you just ended up at a dealer that had lost all there master techs.
