I just installed one on each of my 850's that didn't come with one from the factory. My 1994 with 63K miles just had the evaporator replaced last year and my 1995 with 90K still has the original evaporator in place. From what I had been reading, the outside air coming into and pass the squirrel cage would bring in debris that causes early failure of the evap unit. For $35 and 10 min installation time is cheap insurance, plus driving here in south Florida with the a/c on most of the time, it's a plus.
