stereo CD error message 850 1995

As I was driving home last evening the CD player suddenly stopped playing and displayed this error message: E-02. I cannot find any info in the owner's manual, nor on any website specific to Alpine stereos.

Any hints/cues what this means? I'd love to listen to my CDs again.
