Your mechanic is right in what he is telling you. The famous Volvo Oil Trap (found on pretty much all Volvo's old and new) is not a maintenance item to be totally ignored. Having said that, if you are not having any pressure issues (you would know it) and/or your flame trap has been cleaned regularly, then the old "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" applies. On the other hand, if money and time are no issue and love of the car prevails. Do it.
