coolant 850

I believe Volvo coolant for sometime has been phosphate-free, and non-toxic. I use "Sierra" brand anti-freeze which is nontoxic and phosphate-free. Conventional coolant that contains phosphates may have an adverse reaction with the aluminum engine. Any "non-toxic" coolant that is phosphate-free or marked "Safe for aluminum engines" should be just fine. I remember reading a few posts on how some types of antifreeze corrode aluminum parts and wreak havoc on Volvo head gaskets. It might have been in the 700-900 FAQ. Once again, make sure you use coolant that is safe for aluminum and the environment. I've been using Sierra coolant for about 2 years with no problems by the way, with a flush every year. Good luck!
