It could also be the engine mount which is a small rubber piece that keeps the engine from moving around when you accelerate. I have both a 97 Volvo 850 and a 99 XC V70 and both cars have already had to have the engine mount part replaced. Before the replacement, if it gets loose enough it could cause the dash to rattle on acceleration. Total cost for the job is <$200 if you have it replaced by a repair shop.
