If it were me I would be uncomfortable without them. But that's me. I'm sure your pads are not going to go fly off as you step on the brakes and besides you have the other pads on the inside of the caliper to stop the car. Will anything happen? Probably not. But for a few dollars, go to your Volvo dealer and get the clips and feel comfortable.
