Knock Sensor Replacement V70-XC70 1998

I've had a check engine light on for some time now. My OBD-II scanner says its a knock sensor. I took it to my indy Euro repair shop. They tried cleaning the connector and then reset the light. The light came back on the next day. The shop manager said to take it to Volvo which I did.

Volvo put the car on the computer and did some fault tracing and verified that it is the knock sensor. They want to charge me $650 to fix it since the intake manifold has to be removed. $650 is out of the question. I've priced the parts at a little over $100

I've considered replacing it myself. I'm studying the Haynes manual and the associated parts to be removed. The Haynes manual rates the job fairly difficult suitable for a competent DIY mechanic, one step above fairly easy. It seems pretty straightforward. I've seen that several people on the board have done this job.

Before I attempt to do this, can anybody confirm that the throttle housing comes off with the manifold? It sure looks like it.

Are there any other special precautions to be aware of?

Since the fuel rail has to mcome off, the manual says to disconnect the fuel lines at the right rear of the engine. Seems to me that the disconnect at the fuel rail itself should be fine, but I'll probably go with the manual's instructions.

Is there a location or document out there with better illustrations or instructions? Thanks in advance.

Ron
