Oil...S-40 S40-V40

I have a 2002 S40. I bought the car new and the dealer claimed that it had synthetic oil in it. I have been using synthetic ever since. My local Volvo dealer services the car and uses Castrol Syntec 10w-30 (I live in SF bay area, california).
