I too have a 1996 850, but a wagon. When I ran a carfax check it came up as a GL/GLT too. The car has cloth manual seats, no sunroof, but it has alloy wheels (a GLT feature). I think the line between base and GLT may have been a little blurred in '96 - don't think this was the case in any other year. Go figure.
