Buying used wheels 850

If you cannot/will not go to a tire shop, you can make a simple jig to check the wheels for truness.

A piece of coat hanger wire stuck into a block of wood (used as a base) can be bent to lie close to the edge of the rim you are testing.

Jack your brick up and chock its wheels. If you leave the emergency brake off, you can mount the test wheel on your rear hub, put the end of the wire near the wheel's edge, and spin the wheel to observe if the rim goes in and out, or up and down.

Practice on one of your steel wheels so that you can do this test without looking too ridiculous. Do the inside and outside.

This can be a DANGEROUS thing to try, and falls in the "Don't do this at home" catagory if you are not confident that you can do it without killing yourself or another!
