Use a new aluminum crush washer every time you change the oil. I use a large piece of cardboard as a slop board, I'm messy and I like to keep a clean garage floor. You will need a 17mm wrench and I use my wife's plastic jar gripper to take off the filter.

Wonder what it is like to change the oil in January with the temperature above freezing? :)
