strange problem 850 1995

I tried wiggling the key in the ignition, but nothing happens; I'll try fiddling with the headlight switch this weekend. It's weird; the headlights work fine, but the interior lights (light in the shifter and the lights for the speedometer, etc.) usually start up, but then go out all together after 2 seconds or so. The headlights remain on.
