Oil change interval 850 1996

I try to change the oil in my 1996 850 GLT every 3000 miles, but that can be as long as 6 months sometimes. I have seen recommendations to change it every 3 months (on the mechanic's reminder sticker ...)

I drive 3 miles to work and back daily during the week, and occasionally take a 70 mile or longer road trip. I live in Western New York, where we typically get snow from November to March.

Under these circumstances, is it better to change it according to the calendar (3 months) or the odometer (3000 miles)?
