Just an old story-

I thought I had something seriously wrong with my '82 242. Rev the motor, and a high-pitched rattle came from the cowling area. I chased all sorts of stuff. It finally turned out to be a loose bolt on the firewall that held in the cowling.

These things are hard to find, but it's probably minor. Good luck!
