Junkets:
Sorry I can't help you with your dianosis of the propblem. I just recently replaced my alternator as it showed no output and when driving my various dash idiot lights would stay on.
I did mine twice because I had temporary repair the first time and in the meantime I got the permanant.
The second time the whole process took 2 hours. The first time longer just finding the bolts to remove. I took mine out from the top by removing the PS pump but not disconnecting it from the hoses. After looking at how the alternator connects to the same bracket as the power steering and the problem with the AC compressor being in the way, I don't know how you would take it out from the bottom any easier.
Several helpful hints that will make the job easier are:
Have the tool or a 1/2" breaker bar with 3 pennies to ease the tension on the serpantine belt and have a 12mm deep well socket to remove the three bolts through the pulley on the PS pump. If you want more detailed instructions e-mail me at intrep@peoplepc.com.
