I installed IPD's sway bars in my 855 Turbo to lessen the body roll, and they certainly did that. Much tighter feel turning and less wandering on the highway/freeway. I'm really pleased with them.
On the other hand, it does harshen the original 'cushy' ride over bumps (particularly at lower speeds, slightly at higher speeds).
Sounds by your post that a cushier ride is not what you prefer, so I'm tempted to recommend these bars to you.

Not sure if the 96 came with a cupholder. If not, see ebay to easily replace the center console top with one w/slide out cupholder.
