A/C problems in 96 850 wagon 850 1996

ghaynes--Picked up a can of refrigerant for my 97R, thinking I had a leak in it because the compressor was cycling on and off every few seconds, but it appears to be the relay or a switch gone bad on the side of the compressor because it really kicks out cold air. The refrigerant kit I picked up is made by Auto Air Conditioner sold by a Schuck's Auto Supply, and cost me about $35. Side of the can said that it had both a red dye and stop-leak in it. Came with a really nice little color-coded pressure dial indicator gauge that you could use without attaching it to the can. You could check your pressure first before deciding whether you wanted to attach the other end of the hose to the can, because it had a check valve in it, screw down the handle if the pressure was low, puncture the seal of the can, and add some more 134a. The slip-on hose clamp was simplicity in itself to use. You just unscrewed the little plastic cover on the high pressure line, pushed the collared hose down onto it, it snapped into place, and instantly you got a reading on the dial indicator gauge. Since my system doesn't need recharging yet (knock on wood), I can't say how efficacious the stop leak additive is inside the can. For what it's worth. Dick
