Radiator leaked at 140K - it this a known problem? 850

The rad on my old 91 740 went belly up on me on vacation 300 miles from home. Internal rupture allowed antifreeze into the ATF that destroyed the transmission several months later. Had to replace the tranny plus the rad. (Ouch $$$$). My 850 has 118K and am debating replacing the rad when I do the cooling system flush. My experience has always been cooling system failures are always on dark rainy nights, when it's 100 in the shade, 10 degrees. or miles from home.
