Dear Amazonphil,

Hope you're well and stay so. I can't say how any Ford van's seat-belt should work.

But 940 Volvo seat-belts definitely lock-up when jerked hard. Based on Brickboard posts, the pyrotechnic pre-tensioners lock the seat-belt once collision energy has been detected.
