The thing that is closer to #3 is the hose that feeds the heater.

Instead of risking the start-run-warm cycle to test, why not invest a bit of time to pressurize the system cold to about 10#. If you have access to a junkyard res cap, tire pump or garden sprayer, and tire gauge, you will build a tool to be used many times over while you soak those exhaust studs.
