I used MTL in a '63 122S I used to have (non OD) and it worked great! Smoother shifts, specially when cold. Never had a problem in the 122S.
I'm currently using MTL in a '73 VW Bug (replacing the 90W hypoid oil in the transaxel recommended by the factory) and the difference was incredible! Shifting improved at all temps, but specially when cold.
Based on these results, and the fact that Volvo uses ATF in the OD type trans, I got really brave and replaced the 90W Hypoid oil in my "A type" OD equipped '63 TR4 with Redline MT90. So far the results have also been excellent, OD works great with MT90 and the shifting feels smoother.
It's funny that the fluid requirements for the same OD seems to vary by car manufacturer. Triumph calls for 90W Hypoid oil, MG uses 30W engine oil and Volvo goes for ATF ! Go figure since these ODs are all Laycock-de Normanville british made units.
MTL is equivalent to a 70W-80 oil and MT90 is like a 75W-90.
