Do the same with the wood mallet while pulling but turn the shaft CLOCKWISE.

Normal rotation out of the trans is CCW. By turning CCW you are actually causing the Sprag bearing to grab the back portion of the OD.

Some OD removals can be a pain. Regretably, your is one of them.
