Another radio question 444-544

I'm looking to buy a 544. One I've seen has a non-original radio in it. It's my understanding that original radios nade 3 holes in the dash - 2 for the knobs and 1 for the dial & buttons. So they must have cut that all out in order to install this Kenwood that needs only one large hole. Is there any way to restore the dash so that, if I could find one,I could put an original radio in it? The rest of the car seems OK, but the Kenwood, no matter how well it plays, just doesn't belong there. Thanks.
