side marker light question 900 1997

I have a 1997 volvo 960 wagon. I'd like to install side marker lights, replacing the "volvo" medallions that currently exist on each front fender. But first, how can I see if there's a preexisting wiring harness? Do I remove plastic, inner wheel well cover? Is installation difficult?
Next, can you recommend a supplier from where to purchase side marker lights?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Your vehicle is not pre-wired, only some 850's were. You do not need to remove the fenderwells. I used a stiff yet flexible wire (about 4 ft long) and began snaking from the front of the car near the turn signals and ran the wire over the wheel well, I then used another piece of wire to snake up from the removed emblems to grab the first wire coming from the front of the car over the wheel wheel.

They went in easy and look great. I have them set up to be on with the parking lights and flash when the signals are used.

I bought mine from IPDUSA but there are many sources including eBay. The lights I have are Volvo OE and have clear lenses with amber bulbs to match the stock turn signals.

      Thanks for the reply.

I have a couple of other questions if you don't mind. When snaking the wire from the "emblem hole" towards the front blinkers....where should the coat hanger pop out? Right near the blinker? And...where to the side marker lights actually hook up to the blinker? (see attached pic) Do I cut the wires right behind the plug that connects to the blinker assembly? I noticed I don't have much exposed wire between the blinker "plug" and the thick protective wire coating that the three blinker wires are housed in. I hope this makes sense.

I snaked the wires FROM the front (turn signals) to the rear (emblems). It was easier that way. The instructions you get with the markers will give you 2 options. 1) normally off, and blink with signals, 2) On with lights and blink with signals. You don't have to cut any wires, you can use 3M taps or similar (posi-tap) connectors.

Also, you may want to spray the wire taps with some sort of thick/gooey spray to keep water out of the connection. I did this on both my cars and so far, so good. We wired the side markers on both so they only flash with the blinker. I think they're pretty cool and add an extra bit of safety.

I brought the driver's side wire through a white plastic plug that is up high and under the Volvo molded cableway and in line with the front of the air cleaner. I punched a hole through the plug and brought the wires through. It is hard to see.

On the passenger side I used the really big white plug near the battery to bring the wires through. I was not as happy with this because you can see it, but it was an easy target. Make sure you have some harness tube around the wires, especially where it goes through the caps. A dab of RTV to seal the hole if you choose to pierce the plastic caps would not hurt.

Vlvword is $57 with the harness. Shop around. it is likely all the same stuff.

With a splicing connector, you should not be cutting any original wires. I don't remember if I had to trim back on the protective tubing to get enough room for both splice connections.
