No start 740 fixed! 700

It was the coil/square ignition unit! Even though I had a spark, it must have been too weak. A dirty ebay unit fixed problem on the spot.
Now I have a spare working computer and another spare coil which won,t hurt I quess.
Just one question: I have been starting a LOT without spark trying to solve this thing. Is my new synthetic oil diluted (degraded) now? Do I need to replace it?
Hope the thing will get me through winter.
Thanks for everyone who helped with this!!!!

You may have ahad a cylinder wash down situation from all the raw gas not burning. How Gassy does the dipstick smell?

If it really smells like gas, I'd probably do the oil. sorry.

Those Rex coil units seem to be a rare failure, based on my 3+ years here.

Did you try removing just the coil first (2 torx screws) and clean the contacts?
Or did you just swap the whole assembly, with the coil still mounted to the amplifier/heatsink?

I just pre-emptively pulled the 940's coil and cleaned off the 2 terminals that connect to the amplifier. But now wonder if, like the Bosch "Power Stage" (amplifier), the Rex heatsink amplifier might be somewhat prone to heat-transfer problems caused by dried out thermal grease under the heatsink?

Did you notice anything like that when you removed the old part to replace it?

If the oil level is higher and it smells like gas then change it. Other wise it will probably vaporize on a long drive.

I cleaned and grinded the contacts several times .
I don't know if the coil or the solid state is/was the problem. I bought another unit for $10 on ebay so I will have a spare .
I,m so happy!! Heated seat car in winter!
