The first mistake is back on 214-3, where it says in the example, "...clearance
needs to be reduced by 0.07 to .13 mm...." Obviously, it must actually be 0.08 (.53-.45), not 0.07. And they carry this mistake to the next page.
Based on these (corrected) figures, you should want to substitute the 3.65mm shim with one that is larger -- to reduce clearance -- by this range of figures, or in other words, from 3.73 to 3.78 mm. A 3.75 disk makes sense.
I agree with you. And as a check of our logic, it would seem that with a clearance of 0.53 plus an original shim of 3.65mm, there is a gap (without any shim) of 4.18 mm. Fill it with a new shim of 3.75, and you'll wind up with a gap or clearance of 0.43 (4.18 - 3.75).
There are a few other typos in Bentley as well (credit for this list goes to someone else on this forum, not to me):
PAGE #
032-7 — Fig. B10106, Fuel Pump/Filter misidentified
214-2 — Fig. 3. Shows front of camshaft. Text refers to "rubber plug" which is at the Rear.
214-4 — Three erroneous Cautions about valve-to-piston interference.
214-5 — One erroneous valve/piston caution.
215-4 — Step 9 text ("pull") disagrees with Fig. 9 caption ("push").
215-5 — Step 7. "See Fig. 11" should conclude Step 6 (reference to guide plate).
215-5 — Tightening Torque stage 2 should be 60° (not 90°)
215-5 — Fig. 11 Camshaft sprocket should be Crankshaft
216-9 — B230 crank pulley Tightening Torque missing (Stage 1 - 44 ft. lb., Stage 2 - 60°)
220-5 — "Oil Pressure Warning System" No Oil Pressure info in "380 Instruments" , as referenced.
240-18 — "to test start injector" Step 2 says to disable ignition "as described in (Chapter 280). But with no ignition, there will be no Fuel operation as needed in Step 5 to test the Cold Start Injector operation.
240-21 — Can't adjust dwell (Step 5) with O2 sensor disconnected (Step 4)
