temp gauge not workiing 900 1994

Dear jotvolvo,

Good p.m. and may this find you well. Replacing the temperature gauge sender - in the head, under the intake manifold, towards the front of the engine - requires you:
(a) to have on-hand a replacement sender
(b) to break-off from the old sender, its plastic electrical connector.

You can then unscrew the old sender from the head.

The sender's plastic electrical connector is larger than the brass hex fitting used to unscrew the sender from the head. As a result, a socket will not fit over the sender, allowing you to remove the sender in one piece.

Because there is little room under the intake manifold - even for someone with small hands - the easiest way is to use a pliers to break off the old sender's plastic connector. You can then use a socket to remove the sender from the head.

I then coated the sender's threads with gray pipe joint compound. I made sure no joint compound got on the part of the sender, that went inside the head. I carefully hand-tightened it, until it was snug. I then used an open-end wrench to tighten it about 1/8" turn. It has not leaked at all.

Hope this helps.

Yours faithfully,

spook
