Three days left of two swallows on ebay. They look decent and starting bid is low. See ebay item number 230075188912. Please do not confuse the seller, volvobob with me, ovlovbob. Don't know if swallows are accurate on my car, 1962 but I like them more than any of the other cowling/hood emblems.

Hope my posting this doesn't drive the bidding sky high!

Bob

I misread the billy.charisma post. He's looking for the swallow hood ornament and I thought he was after the ones that go on the sides of the hood or cowling. The cowling pair are on ebay the hood item is "a rare bird" indeed. Saw one on ebay 3-4 years ago and it's the only one I've ever seen.

So, bid away on the ebay pair because billy.charisma isn't interested. He told me so........

Bob

Iv`e been watching those swallows too. I`m not sure what years they were used but I don`t like to bid against someone I know. Never met ya Billy but your a Brickboarder , thats good enough for me . Anywho I hope you get them they look nice . There has been alot of stuff sold there lately . If my 63 544 ever gets finished I will probably have some quality parts to sell. I will try to check here first for anyone intrested. As for the door seals that you guys have come across have you found something with a rubber scraper that could be used instead of the bristlels ? I am also still looking for the windshield and back glass trim to have installed in the new windshield rubber. If anyone knows a good source please let me know. Thanks ledfoot

Hi Matey, Hows the car coming along. We must meet up one time, possibly at the Watford gap. You could try Brookhouse Volvo in Ipswich. I believe I have given you the details before. Speak to Simon Richardson or Greg. If they dont have them then they will point you in the right direction for a UK supplier.

By the way you are right about there not being a rubber guard because its just the stiff bristles that should stop most of the rain getting through. The bristles are set on a U-shaped strip of metal with screw holes for attachment(There are 2-inside and out) .The tiny amount that gets through should exit at the bottom of the door, which should have a few drain holes. Often someone has blocked these up. If blocked, just use a small screwdriver and open the holes up again.

Oh, by the way, make sure that you take off the door panel and mask the inside with polythene before putting the panel back. Once the bristles are worn down, the rain will start to drip onto the inside surface of the panel and down the door and drip over the door/seal rubber at the bottom on the car body and onto the passenger footwell.

Good luck

P.S. Mine need replacing too. Tell me how you get on and how much they cost.

Sunil

I bought some door seals recently (can't remember from who) and was disappointed to find out that after I installed them, which was quite a bit of work, they were the wrong type. The problem was the compressed (squished) rubber thickness was too thick, so the door wouldn't properly close.

I found the right stuff at Metro Mouldings, and recently ordered enough for both doors (25'). It came to ~$97 with shipping, I think. I can dig up the p/n if anyone wants it.

We also replaced all the rubber seals, around the vent windows. What a pain! If I could post some pictures I would, as this was harder than it might seem, and there is definetely an optimum technique. Again, if you would like the photos of how we did it, just email me.

p.s. I got my car insured yesterday, so now I can finally drive it again. It's been off the road 1.5 years. :)

I hate to let everyone know how dumb I am, but I still can't locate the door seal supplier Metro Mouldings, and part # LP-112E referred to by Belinda.
Can anyone help me out?

Hey Pete, no problem. Here's more info if anyone else needs it too. BTW, I installed these Metro mouldings on the DS door last night, and tried closing the door...and the door barely closes (you have to slam it shut, pretty much), but they do work! This is better than the other mouldings I bought from Swedish Treasures, which like I stated, were too thick (I went ahead and sent the unused one back with a note describing why they were not the correct shape/size, and included a correct door seal sample from Metro). So I officially recommend these.

I had the same problem with new door seals. I'd appreciate the part # and address if you can find it.
Thanks,
Pete.

According to their catalogue, JC Whitney (.com) will gladly send you some samples of their window weatherstripping. Remove a section and examine it and measure it carefully. They probably have the precise strips you want, and they may also have one with a top rubber seal in addition to the bristles, alleviating your water intrusion problem.

This is a project I'm planning for next spring, and I hope to be able to replace all the door, window, and trunk seals for a fraction of what the various suppliers are charging.

I think an older VW vent window seal will also drop right in, but I want to check out my nephew's old Bug before I order that particular piece.

Good Luck!

Steve

ordered my trims from brookhouse /whoever!!! and while i have the door pannels off i have painted the inside of the door with marine paint that i "found" at work,, if its good enough for the north sea its good enough for my car door!! i also found that by bending the door inner metalwork inwards a bit the rain misses the bottom of the door panel although a layer of polythene taped to the top of the door inner and layed inside the door at the bottom directs all the water to the drain holes

Please report back to us if/when you get around to it. I have some relatively new window fuzzies in my doors, but they do let plenty of water just run down into the door, which probably isn't great for the metal inside the door (especially since I still need to unplug the drains at the bottom of the door).

I was looking at their catalog this morning and noticed they even have the outer fuzzies with the metal trim at the top, like the original Volvos.
