Mom's 2006 Chrysler 300 with the puny 2.7l v6 gets around 18mpg around town, and on the highway - my girlfriend will confirm this - my 14 year old 240 could whip it's ass with one cylinder tied behind it's back. The thing is over-heavy and under-powered, bloated and sluggish. I tried to pass someone on I95 and slammed my foot to the floor - after all, it's a brand new hot Chrysler - and God-only-knows what's going on with that transmission, it seems to have shifted down two-and-a-half gears, reved to 6500 and still wallowed in it's own crapulence.

My girlfriend's 2005 Jetta with the economical 2.0l engine is getting around 25mpg, mostly highway.

I drive my 240 hard, sit at stop lights more than I drive, introduce the pedal to floor frequently, and rarely get on the highway. With a crack in my headpipe that's causing it to run rich, I'm getting around 22mpg. Dad's '91 245 automatic often gets around 27mpg on the highway.

How much better could you want? These 15+ year old cars are matching the average modern car for mileage, I think that's pretty amazing.

Maybe you should tell us what kind of mileage you're getting.
