I always start a diagnosis like this with the most thorough visual inspection possible. Often you can find something just by looking around. Start by putting the car up on ramps and very closely looking at the wiring for the OD under the car between the car body and the transmission. Often these wires fray and fail with age. Time and temperature variations can easily make the difference with a marginal wire.
