IPD is losing its appeal... fast. 200 1990

I believe IPD is going in the wrong direction. Rather than trying to stay up-to-date with gimmicky add-ons for S40s, XC90s and the like, they should have expanded their coverage of parts for older models from 444 to 850 (all of which are 100% Volvo, with the exception of those miserable French V6 engines) International Auto Parts in Charlottesville VA is doing just fine with that business model, only they deal in parts for Fiat, Lancia and Alfa Romeo, none of which sold in anywhere near the numbers Volvos did, nor were they anything like as durable, hence a MUCH smaller customer base. If IPD were truly convinced the vintage Volvo customer base is insufficient, they should have added vintage Saab (pre GM) as they already have contacts with all the relevant parts suppliers in Europe. Subaru is a mistake, not in any way comparable to Volvo, whereas Saab is. (or was) The "real" 900 (79-93) has a large, loyal following, similar to that of the 240, and the older models have their fanatical enthusiasts, whereas Subarus appeal primarily to the rice-racer crowd and to a lesser extent to those who like to go fat on loose surfaces i.e. rally drivers.

The sway bar is IPD's signature product. They already offer them for many types of vehicles other than Volvos, including RVs and other medium trucks. This would be an excellent area for expanded coverage if they want to grow the business.

Finally, they should drop ALL Scan-Tech products. For the premium prices they charge, the parts should be premium quality---European aftermarket if not OEM. The only non-European parts I would consider worthy are NGK plugs and KYB shocks. (there may be one or two others I can't think of right at the moment---Repco brake pads from Australia??)
