Greetings, new to the Volvo scene 200

Just writing to say hello, I have recently purchased a 1992 245 wagon, w/241k on the clock. I have a few questions, but I will hold off on asking them until I have poked around the boards a little more. My first impression is quite favorable, all the stuff (electrical do-dads) still works on the car! Although brutally slow compared to my summer car (05 VW GTI) I have taken it out on a few runs in the snow and am quite pleased with its performance.

    Welcome to the BrickBoard!

I have the same vehicle - '92 245. Mine has the M47 (5-speed box) and limited slip rear, and when I was in CT until a few years ago, that combination with 4 snow tires was unbeatable in winter weather. I preferred my car to the ex's '97 850 with FWD and traction control.

The 240's are slow, no getting around it. I added a VX cam, adjustable cam gear and Turbo exhaust to mine and picked up maybe 10-15 hp, but more noticeable was the fact that in the hills of western CT the cam allowed me to use one gear higher than previously. That plus the ability to get some power and not just noise over 4000 rpm made a huge difference in my enjoyment of the car. I also put on IPD sway bars, front braces, poly bushings and 15" alloys with good tires... nothing exotic, but as my son put it, "you know you're driving something."

Welcome. I have an 88 245 automatic. These are not fast cars. Power kicks in above 2500 rpm. Mine has seemed sluggish. I added some premium ⏧ octane] to the mid-grade and it added some sparkle.

    Welcome.

We have no problems answering questions BUT it is nice to hear you say you are going to poke around the Site a bit. Use the SEARCH on the very top of the page next to the RED VOLVO.

also look through here a bit. The 900's and 700's have a lot of commonality with the 200 series. http://www.brickboard.com/FAQ/700-900/

Greetings, new to the Volvo scene 200

    Welcome to the Brickboard.

There is a lot of information available in the 700/900 FAQ's that are accessed via the drop down menu in the extreme upper right corner of the page. Much of the information pertains to the 240 series when referencing the engine and transmission sections.
