Knock sensor?1990 745TI (141,000) 700

riverdoug,

Are you asking about spark knock or bottom end knock? You specifically asked about a knock sensor so I think you are asking about spark knock, correct? If you are asking about bottom end knock, that is another subject entirely.

Is this someting I could cure with......
a new knock sensor?
Possibly, but not likely. See the FAQ.
a valve clearance adjustment? No.
different oil? No.
or did i get ripped? A strong running turbo with a recent timing belt for $1100? No, I don't think you got ripped-off.

Try running some Techron or similar product for a couple of tanks of gas. If you are not already doing so, you can step up to 93 octane gas. Make sure ignition timing is correct. If it knocks coming up on boost, make sure the wastegate and spark retard is working properly (that is the end of my knowledge of turbos).

Good luck and let us know what remedies the knock.
