Clutch slave - me slave 120-130 1968

My Friends,
Yes, another clutch slave has seen its last pressurized action. To bad, was with me for 22 years. I would be happy if there were a rebuild kit for the trans-mounted slave cylinder, and someone knew the Ph# of the company. If not, how about a replacement cylinder. Appreciate it. . .
Awhile back someone mentioned the 'dlythiium crystals' in their clutch reservior. After a good laugh, I thought about going back and finding out what they were. Anyone have this issue on older cars. What was the final answer?

Peace
Jim

    Clutch slave - me slave 120-130 1968

    Hello,

    New clutch slave cylinders are still available from at least 2 different manufacturers, plus there are still NOS units out there. I have all 3 types in stock.

    If you plan on rebuilding your old clutch slave, you need to know what size the bore is as Volvo sold them with 3/4" or 13/16" bores and you need a different rebuild kit to repair each size.

    SP2001 is the old Girling number for the 3/4" bore rebuild kits, which are easily available.

    SP2626 is the correct old Girling number for the 13/16" bore, but I have to buy the rebuild kits for these right from Volvo as I can no longer can get the correct size through the aftermarket.

    BTW, also get a new copper sealing washer for the clutch flex hose to clutch slave cylinder sealing flange as neither repair kit comes with this usually necessary seal.

    Good luck!

    Clutch slave - 22 years...those darn Volvos just don't last! 120-130 1968

    Jim;

    I'd suggest a rebuild kit also (someone here should be able to supply the PN). You should hone cylinder and clean up any pitting or worse, longitudinal scoring, caused by piston to wall contact...and consider upgrading to DOT5 fluid and an O-ringed piston...you might just get another 22 years out of it! See: http://www.sw-em.com/clutch_slave_o-ring_analysis.htm (I'm in the process of a rewriting that article because I just revisited this subject, and also had a batch of grooved pistons made up).

    "Dylithium Crystals"...that's a hoot....as far as what causes them...it's some combination of the old DOT4 fluid and the moisture which it has absorbed over time precipitating out (those crystals mean the fluid is LOOOOONG overdue a change!)....but maybe you can sell them to the Enterprise next time she comes by this quadrant...

    Cheers

    IF, and it's a big if, the cylinder bore is still good and polishes up OK you might get away with just fitting new rubbers, You can get these from Girling service kit SP2001 (or the current equivilant number) which is used on early Triunph Spitfires. Worth a try for a few $, as a new MC is expensive.
