1986 240 3rd brake light cover needed 200 1986

I can look for one tomorrow (there was one with most of a blue interior in good shape a couple weeks ago), but I don't know how long the P&P here waits before letting the cars get crunched.

Thanks. The cover was missing when I got the car. The console and door map pockets are broken. Any help is appreciated.

Buy new, I think 200 1986

Don't you need to buy parts like this new, if Volvo still stocks them? Used ones will be brittle, just like the ones in your car, and junk yard cars have often been sitting out in the weather a long time. Despite the cost, I think new would lower your frustration factor greatly.

Buy new, I think 200 1989

I bought a black one from the dealer a few months back to replace my tan original on my 89. I don't remember what I paid for it, but I think it was reasonable or I wouldn't have bought it.

It was still there, but I guess blue survives as well as tan...I started to get it off, and the top of it just cracked and broke into maybe a dozen pieces. :(

These are common breakage items 200 1986

The console and door map pockets are broken.

These are common breakage items.
I see several ways to deal with this.

1) Throw money at it.
That is, scour ebay and other web sources for these parts. There's an advertiser here on bb that sells the door pockets and other goodies. I think maybe $79 each. Or you can maybe order through your local Volvo dealer.

2) Ignore it. This leaves your car somewhat ugly.

3) Find a self service junk yard in your area and take a walk through now and then on a Saturday or whenever convenient for you. These parts are generally priced much lower when you pull them yourself. You won't find all you need on the first trip. I call it the Man's Mall.

Some junkyards (OK, automotive recycling centers) are full service only; hired hands will go get what you need. As the yard gets to know you, they will let you go out with the hired help to help guide them. Eventually that same yard may let you go out on your own. Show up in jeans and sturdy boots or shoes with some appropriate tools in hand.

Kind of you to offer.

Did the sedan center brake light covers come in colors?
We've been driving wagons which apparently have black covers, at least for the blue interior cars.

If you can find only wrong color ones, you can always spray paint them black. Painting it a wrong shade of blue would probably be unsatisfactory.

stick vs auto 200

True stuff.

The LH 3.1/manual trans "rule" doesn't seem to have taken hold until 1991. Seems all 1989 M47 240's, and most 1990 M47 240's are LH 2.4.... which really does do fine with the M47. With all else equal, I'd argue LH 2.4 and 3.1 are equally efficient in terms fuel economy, at least with the manual trans (average of 32mpg - high of 34!).

I definitely like a lot of the innovations in LH 3.1, though.... and you can't beat a $99 *new* AMM. And many of us have paid relatively dearly for used -951 ECU's. The -561's are a dime a dozen because the pink label instills an air of evil. :-)
